Carbon Capture and Sequestration involves capturing CO2 emissions directly from large point private sources like power plants, industrial facilities, or cement factories before they’re released into the atmosphere. The captured CO2 is then compressed and transported (usually by pipeline) to be stored permanently underground in geological formations like depleted oil and gas reservoirs or saline aquifers

The porous space where the C02 is stored consists of porous rock layers, located under the caprock. This caprock is directly under our Groundwater aquifers. The goal is to store CO2 permanently underground, keeping it out of the atmosphere.

Louisiana has the geological storage capacity to sequester approximately 40% of the Nations C02 Emissions.

Save the date – the Avoyelles Arts Council will host Plein Air Marksville on Saturday, Sept. 13, from 9am to 3pm at the Gallery on the Square (122 East Mark St., Marksville).

This event is open to artists at all levels. Awards will be juried by New Orleans artist Billy Solitario. There will be wet paint sale and reception from 5-7pm.

The Louisiana Master Gardener Program is a service and educational activity offered by the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service. The program is designed to recruit and train volunteers to help meet the educational needs of home gardeners while providing an enjoyable and worthwhile service experience for volunteers.

Experienced and beginning gardeners seeking up-to-date horticultural information can advance their gardening expertise and gain self-satisfaction through volunteer efforts. The volunteer aspect of the Master Gardener program allows individuals to dedicate their time and talents to enhancing the quality of life for the citizens in their community by using the science and art of horticulture. It allows individuals to put into practice what they know and learn.

Master Gardeners should be interested in horticulture, willing to help people, outgoing, flexible and dependable. The instructors are professional horticulture educators who will cover topics including soils, trees, pests, etc. The first Master Gardener class will begin Tuesday, August 19, in Lincoln Parish from 1-4:30pm and continue every Tuesday for 12 weeks, ending on October 28.

Seating is limited, so early application is encouraged. The course fee is $135 before July 31, and $160 after July 31, which covers the cost of the manual, speakers, and Master Gardener name badge. Registration ends July 31, 2023. The Master Gardener program is open to all people.

The Louisiana Center for Health Innovation at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs are conducting a survey study to identify opportunities for growth in serving Louisiana’s veterans and their families.

The Town of Mansura will host its 2nd annual Back to School Supply Giveaway on Saturday, Aug. 9, 8-10am (while supplies last). The giveaway will be held under the Pavilion (1822 Leglise St.). 

Governor Jeff Landry and OMV Director Bryan Adams announced LA Wallet is now approved nationwide. The Transportation and Security Administration (TSA) has certified Louisiana’s LA Wallet complies with federal requirements, allowing Louisiana residents to present LA Wallet at TSA security checkpoints, federal buildings and courthouses for the next three years. In 2028, TSA will again review Louisiana’s LA Wallet to ensure it remains compliant with federal privacy and security standards.

“We are thrilled to see Louisiana utilizing innovative technology to allow for a more flexible and accessible TSA experience. Under Secretary Noem’s leadership and work with our state partners, we are enhancing the passenger experience at TSA,” said Adam Stahl, TSA Deputy Administrator.
