Sheriff Dauzat announces “APSO Project V.I.P,” new program to help keep seniors safe

Sheriff David L. Dauzat announced “APSO Project V.I.P. (Vulnerable & Independent Persons),” a special project his office created to help support the seniors of Avoyelles Parish. APSO is able to bring this project to the community thanks to a grant from the Central Louisiana Community Foundation. APSO is also teaming up with the American Red Cross, who are providing life-saving supplies to help make this program a success, along with Wal*Mart in Marksville.

Project V.I.P. is a completely free service where a APSO Deputy from the Support Services Division/Patrol will stop by for a home visit to help make sure senior citizens are safe and prepared for an emergency.

During the visit, an APSO deputy will provide safety tips and a safety package, including:
  • A V.I.P. Emergency Kit: Participants will receive Emergency Contacts, Meds / Medical History Card form. It also comes with a special V.I.P. sticker for your door that lets all first responders know you’re part of the program.
  • A Red Cross Safety Packet: This packet will help you create a Home Fire Escape Plan and includes a simple Fire Safety Checklist. A New Smoke Alarm and other safety supplies.
Sheriff Dauzat stated, “Our seniors are the heart of Avoyelles Parish, and this program is all about looking out for them. I am so thankful for the Central Louisiana Community Foundation for providing the grant to make APSO Project V.I.P. happen. A big thank you also goes to the American Red Cross and Wal-Mart for their partnership and supplies. Working together like this lets us offer real, practical help to our seniors, right in their own homes.”

Enrollment will be on a first-come, first-served basis, and the program will continue until all funding and supplies are exhausted. APSO encourages interested seniors and their families to sign up as soon as possible.
