Law enforcement respond to Avoyelles High School following suspicious call

The Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a situation at Avoyelles High School in Moreauville on May 21.

At approximately 2:51pm, the Avoyelles Parish Communications Center received a suspicious phone call regarding the school campus. In accordance with established safety protocols, the school administration immediately initiated lockdown procedures.

Deputies and investigators arrived on the scene within minutes and worked closely with the school administration to ensure the security of the campus and safety of everyone. A thorough initial assessment was conducted, and no credible threat was identified.

The incident is currently under active investigation. Out of an abundance of caution, a heavy law enforcement presence remained on-site at the school during the afternoon dismissal process to ensure an orderly and safe departure for all students and staff.

“A ‘Swatting Call’ is the intentional reporting of a false emergency, threat, or dangerous situation to emergency services or law enforcement, knowing the information is completely fabricated. These calls are not pranks; they are serious criminal acts. When individuals engage in swatting, they trigger massive law enforcement responses that needlessly drain critical public safety resources. This puts a heavy emotional strain on our students, parents, and teachers, and it dangerously diverts our deputies away from legitimate emergencies,” explained Sheriff Dauzat.

He added, “The Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office will aggressively investigate the source of this call. We will utilize every resource at our disposal to identify, apprehend, and prosecute anyone responsible for disrupting our schools and compromising public safety to the fullest extent of the law.”

Anyone with information regarding the origin of this suspicious call is urged to immediately contact the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office at 318-253-4000.

Note: All suspects involved in criminal investigations are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
