The Cottonport Police Department responded to a report of a vehicle burglary in the 200 block of St. John Street on Saturday, June 21, at approximately 4:56am.
The caller reported that an unknown subject had entered two vehicles and stolen a wallet containing cash, debit cards, identification, and other personal items. Officers arrived on scene, obtained surveillance footage, and began an investigation.
Later that morning, investigators received information identifying Isaiah Kelly as the suspect. He was located at a residence on Martin Luther King Street and taken into custody on an unrelated warrant. During an interview at the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office, Kelly admitted to entering the vehicles without permission and stealing items before fleeing the area on foot.
At approximately 4:55pm that same day, an arrest warrant was issued for two counts of Simple Burglary (L.R.S. 14:62). Kelly was booked on the new charges and is currently being held at the Avoyelles Parish Detention Center on a $25,000 bond.
