On the morning of Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025, a well-attended ceremony saw the Avoyelles Parish School Board officially dedicate the Bunkie Elementary Learning Academy (BELA) gymnasium in memory of long-time school employee Albert Dossman, who passed away on July 5, 2024.
Throughout the proceedings and as people mingled after the ceremony, stories of Albert’s humble nature, kindness, and willingness to assist those in need abounded. In her remarks, Mayor Brenda C. Sampson read a declaration dedicating the day in Bunkie in memory of Albert Dossman.
“Today, we gather as a community to honor the life and legacy of our brother, Albert Dossman. He was more than a citizen of Bunkie; he was a friend, a neighbor, a person whose presence made our community stronger. Through his service and untold selfless deeds, Albert left a mark that will not be forgotten.
On behalf of the people of Bunkie, it is my privilege as mayor to dedicate this day in memory of Albert Dossman, and to extend our deepest gratitude for the contributions he made to us all. May this dedication remind us not only of his service, but also inspire each of us to continue building a community of service, compassion, and unity—values he lived every day.”
The City of Bunkie family extended their appreciation to the Avoyelles Parish School Board and the administration of BELA for allowing them to be a part of this special day. Most importantly, the City expressed gratitude to the entire Dossman family for sharing Albert with everyone.
