The Town of Cottonport has announced dates and details for its 58th Annual Cottonport Christmas on the Bayou celebration.
Friday, Dec. 12, will feature the Decorating Contest and Tree Lighting.
Saturday, Dec. 13, will feature the Black Pot Special – Anything Goes from 8am to 12pm with fireworks at 6pm.
Sunday, Dec. 14, will afford vendors an opportunity to set up. The parade line-up will begin at 11am, and the parade itself will start at 1pm.
The following arrests were made by local law enforcement officers.

State Representative Daryl Deshotels recently announced that he has secured over $13 million in critical investments for District 28 to improve roads, infrastructure, and community services. Additionally, Rep. Deshotels authored legislation to promote more responsible spending of tax dollars and foster a more business-friendly environment across Louisiana.
The funding has been divvied up in the following way:

Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a fatal crash on Louisiana Highway 114 west of Louisiana Highway 1185 on Aug. 18 at approximately 3:30pm. This crash claimed the life of a 16-year-old juvenile from Bunkie.
The initial investigation revealed that a 2006 Ford Escape, driven by a 16-year-old juvenile, was traveling on Louisiana Highway 114. For reasons still under investigation, the juvenile lost control of the vehicle which caused it to leave the roadway and impact multiple trees.
The juvenile driver, who was not restrained, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The juvenile passenger, who was restrained, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on-scene. Toxicology samples were obtained and submitted for analysis.
While the cause of this crash remains under investigation, distracted and inattentive driving continues to be a leading cause of crashes in the state. Louisiana State Police urges all motorists to stay alert while driving. A lapse in one’s awareness can have deadly consequences.
The Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office was contacted in reference to a person that was stealing newly-laid limestone from H Dauzat Road on Friday, Aug. 8, 2025, at approximately 6:48pm. The Avoyelles Parish Police Jury had just installed the limestone to improve the roadway.
A responding deputy located evidence of the theft, including large gouges in the new limestone road. The investigation led the deputy to a nearby residence and a suspect, identified as Chancey Johnson, 34 of Marksville. At the residence, the deputy located a tractor and freshly moved limestone in a barn that matched the material from the public roadway. Mr. Johnson admitted to taking the limestone.
Mr. Johnson was arrested on charges of Theft of Public Property and Criminal Damage to Property and booked into the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office Detention Center #1. The bond was set at $1,000, which was posted, and he was released on Aug. 12.
Sheriff Dauzat stated, “Theft of public property is a crime against every taxpayer in Avoyelles Parish. It wastes our limited resources and damages the infrastructure we all depend on.”
