With the peak of hurricane season arriving, now is the perfect time for every family, individual, and business to review their emergency plans or create one. Being prepared for an emergency is one of the most important things anyone can do to protect themselves and their loved ones. Taking a few simple steps now can make a significant difference in a crisis.
Key steps to preparedness include the following:
- Make A Plan: Discuss with family how everyone will communicate during an emergency, where to meet if separated, and what the evacuation plan is.
- Build A Kit: Assemble a disaster supply kit with essentials like water, non-perishable food, medications, a flashlight, batteries, a first-aid kit, and important documents.
- Stay Informed: Know how to receive official emergency alerts and information from Integrated Public Alert & Warning System.
Emergencies can happen at any time, often with little warning. Taking simple steps now to prepare one’s self and family can make a huge difference when it matters most.
