On Friday, December 27, 2024, at approximately 9:05am, the Avoyelles 911 Communication Center received a report regarding a body discovered near the railroad tracks in Simmesport. Upon arrival, officers from the Simmesport Police Department secured the scene, and Chief J.Fayyaz requested assistance from the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office (APSO).
The deceased individual was identified as Alton Lee Jones, Jr.
Following a thorough investigation, which included an autopsy and the review of video footage, the APSO determined that the incident was an accident. No foul play is suspected.
The Simmesport Police Department extends its condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Jones during this difficult time.
