The City of Bunkie invites its residents to the Bunkie Middle + GWCCC Site for a Visioning Open House on Oct. 7, 5-7pm. Come explore interactive stations designed to give residents a voice in shaping the future of this space. That input will help the planning team understand what programs, activities, and features the community would like to see at the site.

In 2023, Councilwoman Courtney Sampson attended the Walkability Action Institute in Baton Rouge, an event focused on creating action plans to improve walkable and bikeable communities.

Following this event, the city of Bunkie set three key goals:

1.) Redevelopment of the Cottonwood Street property through community engagement.
2.) Improving connectivity across the Main Street railroad tracks.
3.) Expanding the revitalization of Main Street, with a focus on historic buildings.

Of these goals, the City of Bunkie, George Washington Carver Community Center, Move Bunkie Forward, Center for Planning Excellence, and community members have been actively collaborating to make progress on Goal 1.

Recently, Bunkie invited the community to complete a survey to share which improvements matter most to them. The city collected approximately 100 responses, and now the city invites everyone to an Open House to see the vision for the Cottonwood Street site and contribute more ideas.
