Simmesport announces new utility cut-off policy

At its last Monday meeting, the Town of Simmesport Council passed a resolution on how water and gas cut-offs are to be handled. The process is now as follows.

1. Customers will no longer be allowed to be delinquent past 30 days. If a bill is not paid in full before the 25th of each month, services will be cut. Customers will no longer be allowed to be 2 months behind.

2. If a bill is not paid in full by the 15th of each month, a 10% fee will be added to the bill.

3. Cutoff will begin on the morning of the 25th of each month. If the 25th falls on a Saturday or holiday, the cutoffs will begin on the next work day. If a person’s name is placed on the cutoff list and services are not physically cut off, there will be a $30 service fee added to the bill. If services are actually cut off, the person will not pay the $30 service fee – instead they will pay a $50 reconnect fee.

These rules will take effect in September.
