In November 2023, the successful placement of a School Resource Officer at BELA was a result of persistent communication and collaboration among the City of Bunkie, the Bunkie Police Department, and the Avoyelles Parish School Board, in partnership with the faculty, staff, administration, and Parental Volunteer Organization (PVO) of BELA.

By prioritizing students’ well-being, these entities cleared a high hurdle and took a massive step toward furthering the cause of school security and student safety. This accomplishment and its subsequent success stand as a testament to the power of teamwork.

Two years later, the SRO initiative at BELA is a resounding success. The City of Bunkie extends its gratitude to School Resource Officer Jennifer Hazelton for her unwavering dedication and service.
