Sheriff David L. Dauzat would like to remind the citizens of Avoyelles Parish of a valuable and free resource available at the main office of the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office. There is a Prescription Drug Drop Box located in the lobby of the APSO.
This secure drop box provides a safe, convenient, and anonymous way for residents to dispose of unused or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications. Proper disposal is crucial for preventing prescription drug abuse, accidental poisonings, and protecting the environment.
Sheriff Dauzat stated, “The safety of our community is our top priority, and that includes preventing the misuse of prescription medications. This drop box is a simple but effective tool to get old drugs out of medicine cabinets where they could fall into the wrong hands. We are incredibly grateful to our partners at the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators (NADDI) for funding this project and helping us provide this vital service to the people of Avoyelles Parish.”
Residents can bring their unwanted medications to the main office during business hours and deposit them into the secure box with no questions asked.
For emergencies, always dial 911. For non-emergencies, contact the office at 318-253-4000 or via email at info@AvoyellesSO.org.
